Glenadoulgh Double Barrel Whiskey

A new and unique style of light and floral whiskey distilled in a Coffey still (like whiskey, another great Irish invention!) from a mash bill of Irish malted barley and corn. It spends three and a half years in American oak first-fill Bourbon barrels before being finished for six months in Spanish Oloroso sherry casks. The Bourbon barrels impart deep, robust chocolate and caramel notes, while the Oloroso casks lighten the palate with fruitier notes and touches of nutty tones. With both barrels being oak, you get that beautiful vanilla thread you’d expect to run through an Irish whiskey.

Fiery Old-Fashions

Fiery Old-Fashions

firely-old-fashionFor Thanksgiving this year, I thought I would incorporate this tasty little number.   Never one to follow the trends – I’m opting away from the creamed pumpkin and apple cider based drinks.  I say bring on the Whisky! This lovely twist on an old Fashion is light and refreshing with a delightful burst of cinnamon at the end.  The first one makes the next two seem like a great idea – so just make sure you help Grandma to the dining room table when the turkey is served!

  • 1 shot Fireball Whisky
  • 1 shot bourbon
  • 1 tsp maple syrup
  • 1 tbsp orange juice
  • 4 dashes of bitters (we used orange bitters)

Shake and strain into an old fashion glass and garnish with orange peel.

SpikedSeltzer

SpikedSeltzer

spikedserltzerDon’t be the last to hear about it! SpikedSeltzer is on fire! We can’t keep it in the store. I would love to tell you it’s light, fruity and refreshing; but honestly it’s so much more than that. It’s almost a disservice to describe it so simply, so here’s a little more from the makers themselves:

SpikedSeltzer is made exclusively from purified water and natural ingredients. The fresh fruit flavors infused in SpikedSeltzer are derived from cold-pressed citrus essence from a variety of fruits. Fermentation of this citrus essence and sugar naturally produces 6% alcohol. The result is clean and clear without the sugary sweetness of wine or the heaviness of beer. SpikedSeltzer contains 6% alcohol, yet there is no taste of alcohol thanks to the unique brewing process developed by our master brewer, Nick Shields. Whether it’s straight from the bottle, poured over ice, or used in a mixed drink, SpikedSeltzer always remains perfectly refreshing.”

French 75 Cocktail

French 75 Cocktail

french75What was once old is new again!  And that goes for the French 75 cocktail (or as the French call it a Soixante Quinze).  The drink originated in Paris during World War I, and was said to “have such a kick that it felt like being shelled with the powerful French 75mm field gun!”

Well its made a stunning resurgence and I have to say I think that’s wonderful news.  One sip and you’ll have to agree.  I made mine with Uncle Val’s Gin because of all the wonderful botanical flavors in it.  As for the sparkling wine aspect – stick to Proseccos’ – their crisp, clean flavors and affordable price points make them perfect for this recipe.

Make this your first summer sipper on your patio when the sun comes out tomorrow!

Ingredients:

  •   1 oz gin
  •   1/2 oz. simple syrup
  •   1/2 oz. fresh squeezed lemon juice
  •   Brut Champagne or dry sparkling white wine
  •    lemon twist, to garnish

Instructions:

Combine gin, simple syrup and lemon juice in a cocktail shaker filled with ice.  Shake until well chilled and strain in a glass.   Top with Champagne and garnish with long lemon twist to serve
