Woodwork Wine

Woodwork Wine

WoodworkWoodwork wines are a line of wine offered to you from Diageo Chateau & Estate Wines. As the name suggests, Woodwork is showcasing three wine varietals – Cabernet, Chardonna, and Pinot Noir with significant oak. We tried the line and loved all three wines (which is remarkable for me because I am not usually not a huge oak fan). It’s all about balance, and clearly Woodwork has mastered the balance of oak and fruit in this series of well craft wines.

Sinfire: an Evil

Sinfire: an Evil

SinFire_750mLSinfire is a newly released cinnamon whisky. We know there are already delicious cinnamon whiskeys on the market – but we really like this one. The reason we like it so much is it’s got more heat, more cinnamon flavor and a less sugary finish. Straight up, on the rocks or chased by bourbon ale – it’s all good. And even though whisky is not your typical “cocktail” contender we’be got to say, we love the “Cinnamon Toast Crunch” shot. The shot contains one ounce of Sinfire Cinnamon Whisky and one ounce of Rumchata. We suggest you quadruple this recipe because everyone is going to want one.

Pumpkin Beer

Pumpkin Beer

PumkingBeerWith so many delicious Pumpkin beers on the market it’s hard to choose a favorite, but personally I always choose something from Southern Tier.

Southern Tier offers not one, but two delightful pumpkin brews. The first, Southern Tier’s Pumking is imperial Ale made with ale yeast, two types of malt and pumpkin. Pour this into a cinnamon-sugar rimmed glass and you’ve got the quintessential autumn ale. However, if you’re in the mood for a heavier beer, perhaps Southern Tier’s Warlock is for you. Warlock is a full bodied, malty stout that offers toasty, vanilla flavors of stout coupled with the scintillating taste of pumpkin pie. Try them both while we have them in stock, because as you know, they disappear quickly!

Watermelon Tequila Cocktails

Watermelon Tequila Cocktails

WatermelonCocktailsThis scrumptious cocktail is courtesy of Food & Wine Magazine (one of my favorite sources for new yummy drinks). It’s a little more work than I like to do for a summer sipper – but it just reeled me in with watermelon and tequila!

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup simple syrup
  • 2 cups diced seedless watermelon (1 pound)
  • 1/4 cup fresh lime juice
  • 1 1/3 cups blueberries
  • 3/4 cup lightly packed fresh mint leaves, plus 8 sprigs for garnish
  • 1 1/4 cups silver tequila
  • Ice

Directions

  1. In a blender, puree the watermelon until smooth. Set a fine-mesh strainer over a bowl and strain the watermelon juice, pressing gently on the solids to extract as much juice as possible. Discard the pulp.
  2. In a large pitcher, combine the sugar syrup with the lime juice, blueberries, and mint leaves. Using a wooden spoon, lightly muddle the blueberries and mint. Add the watermelon juice and tequila. Refrigerate until chilled, about 2 hours.
  3. Pour into tall ice-filled glasses. Garnish with the mint sprigs and serve.

Shatter Grenache

Shatter Grenache

ShatterGrenacheOkay wine enthusiasts – here’s one for you! We tasted this beauty at The Boston Wine Expo this year and loved it. Of course, it is allocated to restaurants only – however, we pulled a few strings and got a case for the store! We only managed to acquire twelve bottles, eight of which are for sale. Needless to say they won’t last long – so stop by and ask us about it!

2011 Shatter Grenache

Shatter, Dave Phinney and Joel Gott’s first collabortive effort, comes from the small town of Maury in the Roussillon Region of France. The Hillside Grenache vines were planted over 60 years ago  in Black Schist, a state-like, rocky soil common to the are. Though nutrient-poor, it retains heat well, allowing the slow-ripening grenache to reach full maturity through cool nights. Tough soil, strong winds, and hot days push the vines and cause shatter, or coulure, in the grape clusters, naturally thinning  fruit from the vines and producing more intensely concentrated flavors. After harvest, the fruit is cold-soaked for 30 days to help further concentrate the wine, then fermented and aged in Maury.

TASTING NOTES

Extracted aromas of crushed cherry and spring rhubarb pie are delicately framed by seasoned French Oak. The entry is vibrant and powerful, which leads to luscious flavors of wild strawberry that perfectly rounds out the mid-palate. Ripe blackberry and blueberry notes.

Lemon Martini

Lemon Martini

Lemon_Drop_MartiniSome things never go out of style – especially when it comes to hot summer nights and the refreshing flavor of lemon. Crisp and citrusy, this is my favorite Lemon Martini recipe that never fails to satisfy! This recipe is easy to make by the pitcher if you keep in mind the 2:1 ratio lemoncello to vodka.

Ingredients:

  • Quality Citron Vodka (I used Ketel One Citron, but if you’re making a lot for a party you could substitute with something like Svedka or Absolut)
  • Lemoncello (I prefer Averno)
  • Ice
  • Sugar
  • Fresh Lemonade

Directions

  1. Fill a martini shaker with ice
  2. Add 1/2 shots citron vodka, 3 shots Lemoncello, and a splash of fresh lemonade
  3. Shake and strain into a sugar rimmed glass, garnish with a slice of fresh lemon and enjoy. Repeat as needed!
